exams and dramas

Exams are going to start in just a few weeks. However, the urge to procrastinate has not yet ceased.

Since the last drama season, I have gone all crazy about Korean dramas (to think about it, it's not that I've gone all crazy, but it seems that my addiction has gone to a more serious stage). Anyway, the new drama season has started already and I think that there's none which can be called failed drama, i.e. Fashion King.

A Gentleman's Dignity
At first, I thought that this drama would be somewhat boring and things, remembering that the story is centered on four 40-year-old men aka ahjussi. But then, I start to watch it and fall in love with the story line and characters, especially, the main character who acts super cheesy sweet with his so-called one-sided love.
I love this drama more and more, because the other dramas seem to be in somewhat trending genre (time-travel, older woman with younger man, changing body) and this one seems to be standing out by having 4 ahjussis as main characters plus 'normal' story line.
By the way, after watching all others, I conclude that this one is the best in this season. =)

Big
It's quite funny, the story line is nice, the main actor's acting is great. But it has always been such a pain in the neck, when I watch something with fantasy as a genre. However, as this is a Hong Sisters' drama, I expect this one to be a great drama with a happy ending.

I Do I Do
I watch the entire episodes till now and don't know, when I will stop watch this one altogether, considering that I dislike the fact that the main female role is far older than the main male role plus the fact that she is going to end up with the handsome youngster, although there's a nice good-looking mature caring kinda-perfect guy, who apparently also a doctor.
I have never really liked Kim Sun-A anyway, in spite of her great acting skills.

Time Slip Dr. Jin
Another time travelling story (but yeahhh.., Rooftop Prince will still be the best).
I love the main actor (Song Seung-Heon) and actress (Park Min Young), but the story line doesn't seem so promising. By the way, there're some displeasing scenes but still bearable, e.g. cholera break-out scenes with lots of diarrhea and throwing up, opening skull.
Unlike 'Big', I'm doubtful with the ending of the story, because it might end up with something like Rooftop Prince (somewhat unclear and rather sad).

Other than that, I have no interest whatsoever in these dramas:

  • Ghost (I read the summary, not interested; skimmed the first episode, not interested; don't think that it will worth a watch.)
  • Bridal Mask (I read the summary, really not interested in it; wonder, why the rating could be so high, though. Maybe I will watch it someday later.)

commencement speeches

I have just watched two commencement speeches from two famous people, i.e. JK Rowling and Ellen DeGeneres.

It started with a post in Facebook from Mashable about a medley perfomance from a group called 'String Theory' for their graduation ceremony. I watched their show and it made me remembering so many things. Well.., high school have always been like a line between simple life and real life for me (and it seems that the graduation song from Vitamin C will never ever get old).

Anyway, after watching the performance, I looked up again at the article to read the rest and found out that they listed 10 inspiring commencement speeches by celebrities on YouTube. The first one, as usual, is Steve Jobs' (I have watched it before, so I skipped that one).

And then, JK Rowling comes up and naturally, as a Harry Potter reader, I love her and I watched hers. One might think that it takes too long (around 20 minutes), but I believe that this one is really worth watching (or reading).

A part of her speech, which I particularly fond of:
"So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realised, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default."
The second speech that I watched from that list was Ellen's. I love her show (I don't watch it that often, though) and I wondered, how she would do a commencement speech and I found out that she really is the best. I mean, she made it short (only around 10 minutes, but clear concise) and of course, funny.

I especially love her closing words:
"You're gonna be okay --dum du du du du just dance."
And of course, the behind-the-scenes is also worth a watch:

Watching all these commencement speeches and high school graduation performance, my thoughts are wandering around the time of my high school graduation (because I haven't yet finished my college and don't think that there'll be any graduation ceremony here). I don't remember having heard any such speeches (either I have fully forgotten about it or there's none) and therefore, questioning why hasn't there been any such motivational speeches given.

Anyway, if I can sum it up, all of those speeches talk about reaching our dreams, giving it our best and going till we reach it. Because like said, it's easier to start something than to finish it.

new semester, new dramas

On last Monday my second semester has finally begun. New classes, new teachers, new classmates. And of course, there're also some new Korean Dramas being aired these days. Some of which that I watch and wait for:

Rooftop Prince

More info: DramaWiki.
I really like this one. Not because there's Yoochun who played in Sungkyunkwan Scandal or things like that (because I don't really like him in that drama). The story is about a Prince in Joseon Era being dragged into this modern world.
Usually I am not into this kind of fantasy story but then, right from the first episode, I simply couldn't resist myself from being interested. The plot and such are so intriguing and somewhat confusing. One can't guess what will come out next (beside the fact that the main male and female character will be together - till now, I am still wondering how both of them will be able to end up with each other).
And by the way, this drama also serves us with some good laughter.

The King 2 Hearts

More info: DramaWiki.
I got excited when I knew that Lee Seung Gi and Ha Ji Won will be starred in a drama together. Later on, after I watched the first episode, although I really like the scenes where there're Seung Gi and/or Ji Won, I am a little bit upset with the story line (there're psycho and military things).
I hope that the story line will not be 'too weird' (?).

Fashion King

More info: DramaWiki.
I started to watch this one because Yuri SNSD plays in this drama and then, when I found out that Yoo Ah In (played in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Punch) also does, it seems really interesting.
The opening story in this drama is very unlikely to happen in reality. It really didn't appeal to me. There're some bad luck happening with evil aunt and cousin, gangster, wreck ship, etc. But after all of it settled I begin to like it.
Besides all that, Yoo Ah In shows off his chest ever so often in this drama.

Love Rain

More info: DramaWiki.
I didn't intend to watch it at first, but then, there's still no new episode from the other dramas and I 'got no choice' other than watching it. Also, there's Yoona SNSD.The first episode seemed quite promising. There's a woman who becomes a '3 second' love of two men. But then, they are best friends. Therefore one of them takes the initiative to let her go. I wonder what will happen to their kids in the following episodes.
Maybe this drama will be full of struggles and sadness for the main characters (?).

I believe that all of those dramas are worth watching. Always hope that a week would be passed as soon as a new episode is aired, so that I can watch the following episodes instead of waiting for it. But then, a student still has classes to attend to and books to read, apart from all of these Korean Dramas.

during exam weeks (2): Ritter Sport, M&M's, Bueno, Duplo, Nutella

Beside Knoppers, I also took comfort in these:
I really liked this Ritter Sport (Edel-Nuss-Mix) and when I got to a nearby supermarket once again, there's none more. More than that one, I really liked the one with gebrannte Mandel aka praline (I believe, it's one of Ritter Sport's Winter Selection).
The chocolate would melt in my mouth and the nuts showed up. The taste of both could eventually make someone really content. =P
M&M's is pretty usual (but I don't really fond of it).
I usually buy the one with only the chocolate filling (I actually dreaded nuts as much as I like it and I don't like the one with biscuit (?) in it). I read the package, it said something about real M&M's always has the 'm' on it, but later I found out that some of them didn't have it. -.-
KitKat could be so addictive, even though I used to (actually still) think that it's somewhat too sweet. Its slogan 'Take a break, take a KitKat' was somewhat really true (and somehow, I turned out to be 'Take a KitKat, take a break' for me).
On my try-to-be-rational-with-chocolatey-things day, I've tried to first break the KitKat to pieces before enjoyed it (there're 4 bars and I broke each bar into 3), but then, I found out that the best way to eat it is simply to break it into its bars and then bite it just like that because I yearn for that feeling of breaking the wafers with my own teeth. =P
Bueno and Duplo were a very satisfying combination. Both of them are in somewhat same shape and packages. Bueno is filled with cream or things like that, Duplo with wafers, both are covered with chocolate. Most of all, both taste superb.
When I compared both, I believe that I prefer Duplo. I am not really sure why, but maybe because these days I kind of fond of wafers.

It's Nutella&Go!. Small package of Nutella and biscuit sticks.
Of course, it's great and all (with Nutella, one can always be sure).
Above all of those I mentioned, I believe that Nutella on its own is the best of all of all time.
First, take a spoon or fork or whatever it is (a finger maybe?).
Second, dip it in the jar.
Third, put it in your mouth.
The last thing you know, you've been are in heaven. =P
(Okay, one still needs to remember the threat of diabetic)

during exam weeks: Knoppers

Finally, exams are (hopefully) over for this term and I would like to review how 'unhealthy' I've been during those exam weeks. And yeah.., throughout the 'stress' and all that, I muss admit that I've consumed too 'much' chocolatey thing. But then, to think it all over, there's nothing like 'too much' for chocolatey thing, simply because one could actually never get enough of it. =)

Knoppers was one of the thing which I ate (or is it 'enjoy'? 'nibble'? 'gnaw'?) comforted me, while I was 'studying'. It's kind of wafer with somewhat like 5 layers (?).
It tasted great with so many layers and such a combination. One only needs to take care of the crumbles (I haven't found a way to eat it without making any crumbles).
Some of the time, when I have eaten too much Hanuta, I believed that Knoppers is better than Hanuta because it consists not only of chocolate.

Hanuta - a very bad photo of it -.- and only shows its name.
But then, some of the other time, when I have eaten too much Knoppers (especially during those exam weeks), I realized that I actually prefer Hanuta with its one layer thick chocolate mixed with nuts, wrapped with biscuit wafers (even if those nuts or things could trigger my eczema -- I wonder why Ferrero products could do that better than the others, also wonder if perhaps the amount of its nuts is simply higher than the others and that's what caused it)
Back to Knoppers, one thing which always annoys me is the stickers.
Y U use very sticky stickers??
It's really hard to get it out of the bundle.
Sometimes I used scissors to cut it out (and of course, my scissors would tangle with it and didn't get me out of my problem).
Most of the time I roughly tore it (and of course, my Knoppers would be somewhat crushed and I didn't like it and annoyed at myself because of it).
Until one day, I spared some of my 'studying' time and challenged myself to patiently tear those very sticky stickers away.
And then, I succeeded quite nicely (I still slipped and tore it at the corner) and had it sticked on my log book.

nutella and cookies

I saw a post on 9gag which shows cookies being piled up with Nutella in between and then, of course, I can't resist myself not to try it, remembering that I've forbidden myself to 'eat' Nutella in these past few weeks.

So I bought cookies and Nutella (out of stocks at home),

opened it,
spread Nutella on biscuits,
put another pile of biscuit on top of it and then I took a bite. =)))
I believed that I've not spread enough Nutella on my first try, so I made another with much more Nutella, but only with one biscuit and it tasted better than the first one. =P

secret or truth?

Nearly every time when I happened to know some gthings which supposed to be held as not known or a secret towards me, in a way, it changed what I used to think and sometimes, what I used to feel. And this kind of thing always makes me wondering whether it's better to know or not to know things.

Sometimes when I happened to know the 'truth':
  • Some 'wow's popped up in my mind.
  • On the other side, it felt like I had been so naive on all those days of 'not-knowingness'.
  • But then, it gave me another point of view. The way I 'look' at things and especially people would not be same anymore.
  • When the 'truth' and what I knew didn't synchronize, it felt like being lied to.
Therefore, I wonder whether it's simply better to not know things aka the 'truth'.
But one thing which I realized is that most people are simply not to be trusted.

Here is a quote that I read earlier today (I'm used to read quotes at http://quotes.dictionary.com):
This made me think of something like this:
When I neither seek nor can make use of it, how can it possibly 'change' me in such a way?

Man of Honor / 영광의 재인 / Glory Jane / Youngkwangeui Jaein (2011)

I have just finished watching another korean drama, which called Man of Honor / 영광의 재인 / Glory Jane / Youngkwangeui Jaein (yeah.., during my so called exams weeks; my friend told me that I should watch it during these weeks because there's a high chance to achieve better scores by watching drama instead of studying =P).

There's a total of 24 episodes. At first, I didn't plan to watch it till the end of my exams weeks (which is in the middle of February). But then, he said something about the screenwriter. It turned out that he's the one who wrote King of Baking (I really like this drama, even though this one is such a long drama with 30 episodes). From that moment, I couldn't resist myself anymore. xDD
Some of the things that I like about this drama:

  • There're so many twists in the story.
This fact came to the my mind direct in the very beginning of this drama. One can simply know that there're so many secrets that wait to be unveiled. Therefore, one needs to watch it till the end to know how things turn out to be and what's more in those secrets.
  • Around the beginning of it, one of the role said (something like) this: 'Giving up is the easiest way out'.

Those words were kind of hitting me quite hard, remembering that in nearly every other time I had a thought of giving things up (not that I am now or while watching this series). But it did open my eyes wider. I hope that I would never be such a coward.

  • And there's another one that I like: 'Hope is nowhere!' is actually 'Hope is now here!'.

I really do like this one because it's simply quite a creative way to express thing (I don't know whether it's taken from other source or things like that).

  • It's not only a love story between a man and a woman.

Normally, in a drama, the story would 'only' tell us about things happened between a man and a woman, the love they have for each other, another man or woman wants to snatch away their beloved or things like that.
This drama tells more than that. It showed me the essence of faith, friendship, family, persistence, dream, motivation and much more.

About the actors and actresses
They were so well chosen. Some of them:

  • The first one, whom I took notice of, was the main actress (Park Min Young).

She's simply gorgeous. As far as I can remember, as long as the main actress(es) has/have acting skills, the main actor(s) is/are okay (good looking or charming or great acting skills) and the plot is well made, I would be content enough to watch it without thinking about the main actress. But then, there she was, so gorgeously charming. One simply can't ignore her charms (the way she smiles and such).

  • And then, I noticed the 'mean' main actor (Lee Jang Woo).

Dang, I didn't really realize that he has such a great acting skills till he had stupor (in my opinion, he's not that good looking or such and I didn't really like him when I watched some episodes of his We Got Married series). He even reminded me of the elevator scene by Hyun Bin in Secret Garden (Y U must go to army??!).

  • There's also one actor whom one simply can't not take notice of (Park Sung Woong).

During the entire episodes I really thought (and still think) that he looks like the anonymous mask.

I believe that this korean drama worths a watch.

my first written exam ever at university

After all those months with classes, I have finally had a chance to write exams.
My first ever is Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Informatics). And well.., remembering that I don't really understand this subject (I actually also don't on nearly every other subject) and I didn't really put any effort in studying it. I haven't expected much from myself, but I haven't really realized till that moment (when I sat, looked down and tried to answer the exam) that it's actually not that easy to only reach the minimum score (50%).

At first, I prayed, hoping that I could understand all the questions, could answer it just right and all of those things that I have learned would popped out at the right moment.
And then, I read all the questions (a sum of 7 questions).

I don't know how to describe how I felt and feel about that exam. It's simply that I'm so speechless (or rather that I've lost my soul and can't feel anymore -.-).

Facts about my first exam:

  • the questions were not easy to be understood (Y U no ask it in easier way??!);
  • there's a sum of 100 points, there's actually one question that got 18 points in it and I didn't really know how to answer it;
  • I didn't know whether that Prof can understand what I wrote, I felt that my answers were in some kind of kindergarten level (short, somewhat unclear, even nearly without sentences).

When I came out of that room and my friends asked how it was, I simply couldn't say a word and just literally opened my mouth without saying anything (I guess, it's some sort of after-exam-shock). Anyway, I didn't and don't want to say anything bad about what I've written and in a way or other, I don't really need to think about it anymore till the scores are given.

I hope that my following exams will be better and I can pass all of those exams.

the circle of unfulfilled promises

I promised myself many things. I promised that I would spend more time to study, that I would sleep earlier, that I would dress up better, that I would be friendlier, that I would call home more often, that I would be a better person, that I would etc.

stack of books that

I promised to read for my study
One thing I realize is that I rarely fulfilled those promises I made to myself. Therefore, I wonder whether I did so only to myself or also toward the others. Like people often say: look at yourself first before looking at the others. But I guess, I don't usually make promises to the other people, so it's not a problem.

My problem is that I am too used to make promises to myself. When it turned out that I have broken it, I promised myself to do it all over again and then, it simply turned out that I couldn't keep my promise again and then, I would simply make another promise about being better at keeping promises, but I wouldn't and I would make another one and another one and another hundreds.

In conclusion, it's like a dark circle or maybe a black hole. I keep doing the same thing, which is not a 'good' same thing, but rather a 'bad' routine. It seems that I have blackened my eyes, fell into a black hole of promises and simply drowned myself in those promises in order to try to fulfill it.

But I guess, I simply can't get out of it at this moment and simply need to make another promise of fulfilling my unfulfilled promises. I hope this won't last long. =P

nb:
sorry for the broken English.

may all of us have a Merry Great Christmas =)

This may be not so a White Christmas,
a Gray one indeed,
but still, today is the 25th of this year's last month,
today is CHRISTMAS

I may not be a believer,
but still, I believe that no one hates holidays
and Christmas is one of them
and it's great to have festives
especially at the end of the year

There might be hecticness of things,
of choosing what to wear
of which party to attend
of presents to wrap
and maybe, simply of nothing

Whatever it is,
the loveliest of all is to have joy
in every little thing we do,
to put a bright smile in every corner of moments
to give a light despite of gray background
to enjoy the might of this festive day
and bring the spirit on every following day

May all of us always have our smiles attached
and transmit those to others
May all of us have a Merry Great Christmas
and great wonderful years and life ahead

You're such a grace
One who makes me amaze
I try to embrace
But you braze yourself
You let me daze
Into your maze
Spinning me in craze
Leading me to trace
Till I find myself deep in grave

I have written it in such a long time ago; wrote it on a piece of paper bill which dated 19.09.11 (September).
I believed that I wrote it that day and planned to continue on the following days, but it happened to be neglected by me until today. And as you may see, there's actually no addition whatsoever (besides the title, of course) and only some rearranging occured.
And I do love this poem.
